As one of the last members of my core group of friends to get married, I’ve had no shortage of advice on how to handle holidays. I’ve long heard that eventually the magic runs out on Valentine’s Day. The gifts lose their luster and expectations sink until you’re knocking back Little Ceasers and box wine. Fortunately for my legions of loyal readers, the Awesome family isn’t there yet!
Maybe it’s because I am up against a self-imposed deadline to get my column out every month. Maybe it’s sleep deprivation from having a nearly one-year-old child. Maybe I’m just a bitter old man, but it feels like everything that I love (in the entertainment realm) is coming to an end this year.
For most of my life, I’ve had a fear/general distaste about using public restrooms to drop a deuce. I mean, sometimes it’s unavoidable, but if there is any foreseeable way for me to capture home field advantage, I am capable of holding my bowels for long periods of time. My dad and brother will probably never let go of the fact that I once drove 20 minutes to a casino for a bathroom break when we were ice fishing.
John Gallagher is an entertainment illustrator who has worked in screen-based entertainment since 1995. His resume includes four seasons working on The Flash, as well as two on Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Falling Skies, Once Upon a Time and dozens of others.
